Turkye / Cyprus: great results with Serpent 411
January 12th, 2012Team NCRC Started their race season early this year with a wonderful event. As always flawless execution of the race event and real friendly environment makes these races very desirable for racers especially in Turkey. There were a total of 40 racers in the event with 14 from Turkey. The carpet track was built over night by the excellent NCRC team. The traction was low in the begining but as the first practice sessions progressed the traction came up.
We had 5 Serpent drivers in this event. Ateş Billur, Arman Maralan, Çağhan Turna, Our team driver Mustafa Alp and myself, Serdar Aytemiz.
Mustafa and Arman came a day early and they already started practicing before hand and it showed. Mustafa Set the TQ and he proved to be really fast just like in 1/10 GP Touring. Arman had built the car the day before and was getting used to the car. Ateş was fast as always, çağhan was on his Ipad and was using a laptop to program the SP ESC he had, I swtiched for Pistol radio to Stick and I was trying to adapt.
In the end Mustafa unfortunately had motor problems in the first 2 races and cost him the race as he woul dhave won the race easily. He ran a flawless 22 laps and a lap time of 13.5 which was already a lap ahead of everyone and almost half a second faster then the second quickest. I am sure he will do better next race. Ateş had a good race and finished 6th and Mustafa with problems managed to come in 7th spot. I gradually got used to the radio but only managed to win the B-main. Arman came 4th in the B-main due to some technical problems. Çağhan Tried really hard to break the car but he still managed to finish 6th in the C-main.
Results:
We had great fun during the event. next time we will arrive one day ahead to get some sleep as most of us had to race with out sleep for almost 36 hours. We would like to thank everyone for their hospitality while we were at the event. looking forward to ur next race…

USA: JP Tirronen with Serpent Cobra wins Mills Pind race
January 12th, 2012One of the most competitive RC car clubs located in Fort Lauderdale, FL called Mills Pond kicked off their 1st race of the year last Saturday. Race director Bart Collins & the rest of his crew laid down a fresh layout for the New Year in order to get ready for this race. With an amazing 100+ entry, Mills Pond New Year shootout was definitely the race to watch for the weekend.
In 1/8th Pro Buggy A main, it was the battle of the snake. The Local super star, JConcepts/Serpent driver, JP Tirronen had trouble at the start of the race, letting 3rd place Daniel Martinez slip by for the lead. With a consistence pace, Daniel was able to pull a small lead over 2nd & 3rd. The battle between Nick Angelides & JP Tirronen was intense, but this just gave Daniel an advantage. 5 laps later, Nick Angelides turned on his game, putting a charge on Daniel. Daniel’s mistake at the last jump before the straight let Nick take the lead. On the 8th lap, Daniel’s Serpent had a shock failure forcing him to retire from the race. Nick now had a comfortable lead over 2nd place JP. Starting from the 16th lap, JP started to pick up his pace, with back to back 30 second laps, he was slowly catching the leader. With about 3 min left of the race, JP was on Nick’s Bumper. Nick’s pace start to slow down due to tire wear & track condition, while JP’s car got better later on the race, allowing JP to make the move at the back double, passing Nick. With JP’s impressive speed at the end of the race, he was able to put 8 sec over Nick taking the win with Jader Lopez finish 3rd.

Before the raceDue to my study at the university in Sonderborg I had only been able to do some few practices until just before Christmas. Already on the 25th of December I then went practicing for the DHI Cup. I did several back to back setup tests, and I did for me a radical linkage setup change on the rear uprights, as I now use the inside hole. I know, it’s the standard set up, but as I got my S411, it was too tricky to drive for me. I also went to a different track to do some practice. I was therefore ready to go to the DHI Cup Thursday morning – very early at 5 o’clock. I always had some bad luck at the DHI Cup. My hope was to go for a C main, but every time I went to the DHI Cup, I always got back with a disappointing result. This year I hoped the luck would go my way, and I would get a better result with my GM powered Serpent.
Practice at the raceI was sitting next to Marc Fischer and I compared his and my setup, which was almost identical except for his flex top deck and damper settings. I had tried the flex top deck once but found it gave me too much steering. Friday we had to run 4 practice rounds and 1 qualification round. I ran the first 3 practices with new tires, as the LRP CPX tires are always better after one or two batteries. My Serpent was really good, and I did only some very small changes. All racers would be reseeded for the qualifications after the 4th practice round. My 4th practice round – now on used tires – was meant to be the fast one, but I didn’t manage to put three laps together. Really bad – no rhythm at all. I was again thinking of my bad luck at the previous DHI Cups.QualificationI had to start in group 10 of 13 groups. The first qualification I drove very safe. The car was ok, and as several other drivers tried too much and made mistakes, I did a 22. An ok start for me, and I could sleep calm this night. Saturday we all had to run 3 qualification rounds. In my second round I drove faster and I did a 17. My hope for a C main was now almost secured. In the third round I tried to go even faster, but I did several mistakes. The car was good and some of my lap times were very good. I did a 25. In the fourth and last round I did my fastest run – one lap more than in Q1. Maybe even a B Main I thought, but unlucky to me many top drivers ran their best result in the last round also. Still I did an 18. Race setup was round by round and I had points to start as second in the C main. My first goal was secured.FinalsI had to run the first C main in the Saturday evening. My new goal was now to win the C main. I knew the driver in front of me, and he drives very often “all or nothing”. I had a good start, and just as expected, the driver in front of me did a huge mistake in the first round. I was now in the front – and I stayed there right until the end without any pressure. My lap times were ok and stable – just enough to win the first C main. Second C main was Sunday morning. My goal was to stay behind the driver in front of me and see, what he would do. Unluckily it was me, who did the mistake, as I got a traction roll. I fought me back to the second position just to do same again. Lucky for me the pole setter once again overdrove his car, and I finished second behind another Serpent driver – Michael Nilsson from Sweden. The last C main I would rather forget. My plan was to drive secure and not let Michael Nilsson pass me, as he was the only one to take my overall win from me. But again I had some traction rolls, as I drove my car to hard, which is probably the worst to do. I did a sixth place and Michael Nilsson only a third, which was enough for me to take the win of the C main.Race reportRasmus Tobias Callesen 2AfterwardsFor the first time ever I was happy driving home from a DHI Cup. My Serpent S411 was really good and fast almost the whole time. Only the problems with the traction rolls spoiled my happiness, but many other drivers had the same problems, when the grip got high Sunday. I really enjoyed the three days at the DHI Cup in our team, and my thank goes to Marc for answering many questions.
The next races for me will be some national DRCMU races driving the Sorex 28 tires, which I find a better choice above the LRP CPX tires. I will do some testing especially with the flex top deck. I will try out the differences in the set up to the one from Marc, and then I will do some back to back test of tire additives, trying to find something to avoid the unloved traction rolls.Attached find my set up sheet from the race.Also find some pictures: one of my car, one of me with my car, one from the podium with me and a nice and good looking girl in my arm and one of a part of the Serpent team at the DHI Cup. USA: Toys for Tots at Mikes Hobby Shop/Gulf Coast Raceway in Porter, Tx
December 13th, 2011This was the 4th annual TFT race held at Mikes Hobby Shop/Gulf Coast Raceway and it was a big one. Totaling 153 entries which was 40 more than the previous year. Racers coming from 3+ hours and more to race for a great cause. There was more than $3000 toys and cash donated which made it hard on the Porter Fire Department to haul off. They ran a very smooth and fun race that started at 1pm and finished at 1am.
Last year’s event I was racing in the sportsman buggy class and won. This was my first expert race at a big event and it was pretty successful. Started out the day strong with 3 decent qualifiers, which placed me 8th in the A-main. In the main I had a great start, in the first corner there was a massive pile up that put me up 4 spots. Coming around after the first lap I was in 4th and then I made a huge mistake by entering a corner with too much speed and traction rolled. Unfortunately there was not marshal close by and after I was turned over I found myself in 13th position. At that point I just took a deep breath and hammered down and kept gaining position after position. With 2 great pit stops and very few mistakes throughout the rest of the race I finished 3rd in my first expert race.

Toni Gruber mit seinem neuen Serpent S 411 auch im 4. Lauf zur diesjährigen Vogtlandmeisterschaft erfolgreich unterwegs
Am vergangenen Wochenende fand in Plauen das 2.Hallen Winterrennen statt,
Toni fuhr mit seinem neuen Serpent S 411 und heftete den 2. Sieg an das Auto.
Es war ein sehr spannendes Rennen, Toni holte sich die Pole vor Dirk Bräuer und Manuel Männel (beide ebenfalls mit Serpent S 411 unterwegs).
Bereits im 1. Finallauf fuhr Toni mit 38 Runden allen auf und davon.
Dies bedeutete neuen Streckenrekord, der Alte Rekord lag bei 37 Runden.
Im 2. Finallauf spielte der Regler nicht mit und Toni musste aufgeben. Dirk Bräuer nutzte den Ausfall und gewann den Lauf mit 36 Runden vor Manuel Männel.
Im 3. Finale setzte Toni noch einen drauf und fuhr mit 7,812 Sekunden auch noch einen neuen Rundenrekord.
