Germany: report from Michael Salven about the german nationals 1:8

Posted on September 4, 2017 Posted in Latest News, Onroad

This years German National was quite a special one for several reasons. I wanted to try to defend my title but the competition was quite heavy. With Dominic Greiner, Merlin Depta, Lars Hoppe, Steven Cuypers and John Ermen we had a lot if ENS A-finalists at the start. Add local hero Tobias Hepp and you have a high level starting grid.
On the other hand this race was only 2 weeks before the worlds and the last major test for our new Serpent Viper 988.
Free practice on thursday and early friday went very well for all of us. We were constantly in the top 10 and sometimes top 3 pacewise.
Unfortunately it rained in the night to saturday and we could a post do any re-seeding. While I was in a good heat, especially Dominic had a hard time. In average he had to pass 15 times in a 4 minute heat. With the top ten only seperated by 4 seconds that was a decisive factor.
Still he ended up in the top 4 and a direct qualifier spot. Merlin and me struggled a bit with the track beeing different after the rain but we easily bumped up through the semi-final.
The 45 minute final was tough. I was immediately turned upside down in the first lap and had to play catch-up. We also had to change tires twice, we decided to change outside after 10 and all 4 tires after 25 minutes.
Merlin and Dominic were constantly out in front trading places with Gruber and Hepp. Eventually Dominic could win with a few seconds on Gruber and Merlin came home third. I recovered to 5th but the top 4 were hard to get by anyway, given that I made a changd to my car which turned out to be a bad choice and created quite some understeer.
But what a great success for our team! I am doing this for a long time but I can't remember having such a great time with a bunch of people that are just great together! Having so much fun and still find the ambition to do better is amazing.
Thanks guys, also to our mechanics Matthias and Karl-Heinz Meister, Phillip Sting and Jirka Hassler und my wife Jill Salven who all did an amazing job.
Congratulation to Ingo Braun as well fir coming home second in class 2 with his Serpent Viper 977.

See you all in France soon

Sweden: Fransson win 1/8 nats in Sweden

Posted on July 17, 2017 Posted in Latest News, Onroad, Onroad News

Last weekend the Swedish nitro on-road nationals was held on the big and very fast Örebro track. Drivers from Sweden, Norway and Denmark attended the race. It is very fun to see that the 1/8 class is popular and growing in number of participants for every year now.

Weather forecast was bad for Saturday. A lot of rain was expected and the forecast proved to be correct. Therefore the time schedule was revised and it was decided during drivers briefing that 2 rounds of qualification was to run on Sunday morning.

Some drivers decided to run in the wet conditions on Saturday anyway. Mikael Fransson was one of them and held the provisional pole over the night in front of Bengt Andersson.

On Sunday the weather was nice and the remaining two rounds was held in dry and fair conditions. Obviously the dry conditions meant improved times from Saturday and again it was Mikael who was quickest, this time in front of Norweigan top driver Tom-Erik Haaversen. Due to the revised time schedule the Super Pole format was cancelled and four drivers made it directly into the final instead.

Top four after qualification:

1- Mikael Fransson – Serpent 977

2- Tom-Erik Haaversen

3- Magnus Bengtsson

4- Bengt Andersson

In the final Mikael Fransson was able to pull away directly from the start. Behind him it was a close battle between Magnus and Tom-Erik until the latter ran into problems. This meant Magnus could take second in front of Per-Ola Hård who ran a solid final and finished third.

Final results, top three

1- Mikael Fransson  Serpent 977

2- Magnus Bengtsson

3- Per-Ola Hård  Serpent 977

Full results can be found on myrcm!

Thanks to Örebro racing club for hosting a really fun event despite difficult weather conditions.

Germany: Greiner’s report about his first race with the brand new Serpent Viper988 at the ENS in Ettlingen

Posted on July 13, 2017 Posted in Latest News, Onroad, Onroad News

Ens round 2 is in the books. The race started at thursday with free practise in groups. It was the first time we used the brand new 988 Prototyp car. The first day we all must learn the car and how to handle it. So after the first day i find myself on 20th position. After a few meetings with the whole team we found a good setup after practise but the difficult and everytime different track conditions made it not so easy for us to have the right setup at the right time. The competition was again on the highest level and but it was possible for me to reach the final direkt on 9th position. I was not almost happy with my setup, so we discussed after the qualifikation and changed some small things for the training in front of the final. Maybe this time i was the only serpent car in the final, because my mates had some troubles in their finals. But for sure the potential was there to have two or three cars in the main.
The final went okay for me at the first half of the race. I could drove constant laptimes without mistakes and after the tire change i was in 4th position only 1 lap behind the leader. But after 30 Minutes my glow plug broke and i lost 4 laps in the pits. Bad luck this time. Maybe a podium position would have been possible. So only a dissapointed 8th position for me.
We had a lot of fun on and beside the track with the whole team and the teamwork made this final possible. The 988 showed great performance for the first rollout and we are very close to the top guys.
Also my 1:8 skills improve step by step.
I want to thank my pitman Tobias Kerler this time and Michael Salven for an excellent tire stop and brillant refuelings. Also thanks to all my sponsors which made this all possible and for the trust in me.
Next race is the european championship 1:10 for me with my 748 Natrix WC.
See u on the track.
