UK: Mark Green reports on BRCA Nats 1/8, Cotswold
Hi Racers ,
Well the 1st race is done and over and it turned out quite good , The track was low grip and wet but did dry out to allow a little running , My S988 felt good but the very cold weather was causing some problems with the engine not staying stable on long runs , I didn’t have to touch the set up all weekend as the car felt good on the Contact control tyre , with new rules this year there was going to be some drivers faster then normal due to additives being allowed , Which I agree with as its impossible for section committee to check , for me running the control tyre with no additives I was very happy with the speed and as a plus the guys using additives seem to make the track grip up faster for me.
There was a lot of new drivers with their S988 and all was very happy with the great rear end traction and feel . After All the rounds was run I was able to TQ . I was still having problem with the engine to keep it stable but it was getting better .
For the final I decide to continue with the control tyre which would be a disadvantage due to their size , At the start I made small gap but the engine started to go rich and soon the gear change was not changing so I had to stop to get it adjusted , This let Tim Wood in to the lead , I tried to catch him but I just ran out off tyres to keep up the pace but it was still close so I finished 2nd but with the extra engine stop and the control tyre size I think I might of won for sure it would of been very close . So some work still to do get the car a little better for very small tyres but still a good start to the year .
A big thank you to the 8th Committee doing a very good job for us racers and the Cotswolds rc club and thank you to Serpent UK for the help and food and of course Chris my pitman great pitting .
My set up will on the Serpent website under the S988 set ups .
