The first Efra GP Series race was held in Fiorano Italy. Thursday was the first official practise day but the track was wet until 13:00 pm. So at least we had on this day three practise runs over 10 minutes. This time we used Hotrace Tires and I know from the past that these ones have a bit more understeering compared to other brands.
My 748-WC starting setup was anyway very good from the beginning and I changed only to a harder rear diff and 1mm more caster. The traction was not that high on Thursday and the harder rear diff was on the limit. On Friday the track was again wet because of some heavy rain during the night. The Efra suggested by the driver meeting with the agreement from all to finish the race on Saturday evening because the forecast said again rain for Sunday. So we had 2 controlled practise Friday morning and I was top seed for qualifying. On this day we ran 4 rounds of qualification and on Saturday morning the last one. The 3 best rounds with point system has been counted. I was able to tq all rounds of qualification and secured the only safe spot direct into the final.
In the practise before the final was well and I tested a few sets of tires. Before the final my strategy was refuelling by 5 minutes and a full tire change after 20 minutes and push hard in the beginning. The start for the final went really well and after 5 minutes I had a cap to the second place from over 5 seconds. So we changed our strategy to a super safe one and refuelled by 4.30. I never looked back and could win the race by over one lap on the second placed driver. My 748 Natrix WC with my Novarossi engines worked flawless the whole weekend.
The organizers from the track and the guys from EFRA did a great job and everything was well prepared. We had a lot of fun on and off the track with the team/family and all friends like always.
I want to say thank you to all my sponsors for the great support. Without them everything would not be possible. And also to my pitcrew this weekend Klaus Lechner and Michael Salven for a great work.
The next race will be the first round of the European nitro series in Rucphen/Netherlands and I hope this season for more luck in this series for a good overall result.
See u on the track
