Finally racing in Europe is starting!
Last weekend we went to Fiorano for the first EFRA-GP Series. The weather forecast was no too good so that in the drivers meeting the organizers made the decision to run all finals on Saturday. As we found out on Sunday a very good decision.
Running only TC over the winter time I had to get used to 1/8th scale with my 988 Viper again. So I found myself in the practice within the Top15. Changing to a softer front roll bar, removing the shims for bump steer finally brought enough steering I needed.
In qualification I finally gained some speed but made some driving mistakes which caused me to become 17th after qualification. That meant to be the first “lucky” one in the quarter final. I went into my quarter final and with the help of my thrilling fast pit stopper Max Kruse I was able to bump up to the semi where I started from P8. Unfortunately my speed was not enough to push for the front spots and two pit crashes where other mechanics put down their cars while I was passing finally ended my way to the A-main. One thing which leaves a bad touch on my mind after this weekend. When I tried to find a connection back to the top in the first stint of my semi, I had Michael right behind me and I thought I could gain enough speed to make my way up in the ranking list. But obviously I was wrong. We touched, his body was bent, he had to go to the pits and missed the A-main by less than 3sec. Nobody else to blame but me and I’m really sorry for this incident especially because this happened within the team. Next time we will find a better way, I’m sure.
Thanks a lot to the organizers from EFRA and the people from the track in Fiorano. EFRA is on a right way!
