| Serpent S811 Cobra Truggy First race report
Sunday 15th May saw the first Round of the Deerdale Off road summer series, which is supported by Schumacher Racing. The day started off, bright with a cold brisk wind, and the mandatory drivers brief. It was nice to see lots of new faces to the Track. The entry for the first round was higher than we had expected due to the fact of a late decision to hold a summer series. The series is a 4 round series with the best 3 to count. The format was 4 x 7 min qualifying with again the best 3 to count. Finals were scheduled for A-25 min and B-20 min Truggy Round one opened, a few eyes with Tony Drabble taking the first qualifying round with his NEW Serpent S811 Truggy wit a impressive 10 laps. Young Arron Girling (Losi) taking second place and Jack Keatley (Losi) returning to Deerdale with his truggy taking 3rd. Round 2 Saw Tony taking the pole position again, Jason Cook (LRP) deciding to pull up his socks, took 2nd place and Daniel Geeson taking a impressive 3rd place. Round 3 again as with the buggies the track was slightly damp which saw a reduction in traction. Tony was still impressing with his New Serpent Truggy, as it had on just been built with no track time prior to the meeting. Jason stayed in 2nd and Arron moving back to the top steps of the rostrum in 3rd. Round 4 saw a slight slip from Tony who finished 3rd, Neil Sivins bringing his Losi into 2nd and Arron taking the Top spot. The top 10 places after the 4 rounds were as follows 1 Tony Drabble
The Truggy B final was a 20 min race with Dean Coupland (Serpent S811) taking first place, with Keith Bellamy and Jonathan Weldon also bumping up to the A final. The A final was a 25 min race with Tony on Pole poison and Jonathan bringing up the rear in 13th place. The final was run on a now dry track and produced some very close racing. Tony was on the pace with a Best time of 42.06 with Jason and Arron very close behind. On lap 16 unfortunately Arron dropped out with car trouble, which allowed everyone to move up a place. After the 25 min, and some fast frantic pit stops Tony took his new serpent truggy from TQ to 1st place in the A final with 33 laps. Dean Coupland who had bumped up from the B final, made it a impressive 1 – 2 for the new Serpent truggy as he moved from his 11th place start, to finish 2nd on 32 laps. Both of the cars had a impressive first outing taking into account that they were still being built at 8 o’clock Sunday morning and had never seen the track prior to the start. Jason Cook finished in 3rd place. The Top 10 were as follows 1 Tony Drabble |
