3rd annual Chipotle Grand Prix at Speedworld Raceway
Roseville, California USA
What a great day at the track Saturday. I headed to Speedworld Raceway for the Chipotle Grand Prix and even though it turned out to be a hot day with temperature reaching 100F, I still had a great time racing my Novarossi powered Serpent 733 Evo. My car has been so good that we made very few changes and basically raced the same setup we used to TQ the Timezone GP last month. I was again able to TQ, with fellow Serpent driver Ryan Crabtree behind in 2nd. I have continued using the DLS on the rear with no rear sway bar and I have to say I just love the feel of the car with that setup. It is very stable and smooth, but the car still has plenty of steering and front end response. It makes the car very easy to drive. I also again used the new Novarossi Flash PTS and it was fantastic!
With all the qualifying complete we headed out for the mains in the hot afternoon sun. Even though we had one small issue with a flameout on the first pitstop, My mechanic Rich Browne was able to refire the car quickly and get me back out still in 3rd place. With the car being so easy to drive, I just put down laps until I moved back passed Ryan to retake the lead and went on to take the win, and the “Golden Burrito”!! Have to say a big thank you to Chipotle for sponsoring the event and providing free burritos as well as lots of giveaways to the racers. As always, Billy Bowerman from Speedworld ran a great race program and everyone had a fun day of racing.
Next event for me is the Great Lakes Challenge August 24-28….. This is a biggie, and we will be focused on the 966 for this event as we get prepared for the Roar Nationals in September. Thank you again to Serpent, Serpent America, Novarossi, Xceed, Spektrum, Tornado, Avid, Empire Racing, Protoform, and A-main hobbies for your fabulous products and support.
