Daniel Yachnin runs well in Team Serpent America with Cobra Buggy and Truggy
Interview
Q: when did you start rc racing and with which car ?
A: I started rc racing when I was 11 years old with a Losi 8 Buggy.
Q: where is your local track located
A: My local track is an awesome facility called Hardcore Raceway located in Flamborough, Ontario.
Q: What has been your biggest national and-or international result so far ?
A: I was 2nd at RCX in Chicago in 2011 for Buggy. My best result at home in Canada was the 2010-2011 Summer Series Championship at Hardcore R/C in both Buggy and Truggy.
Q: Why did you choose 1/8 scale offroad vehicles ?
A: I really enjoy the strategy and challenges involved in 1/8 scale offroad: the fuel stops, tire selection and the constantly changing track conditions.
Q: When and where did you 1st try the Serpent Cobra, and what was the result ?
A: The first time I ever tried the Serpent Cobra Buggy was when Paul Ciccarello let my try his at CRC Raceways RC Pro event in Rome, New York. I actually first raced the Serpent cars this July at a Hardcore series race, two days after I built it, and finished second in both classes.
Q; What is your age and occupation ?
A: I am 17 and currently in my last year of high school. I am planning on attending university for Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering next year.
Q: What is your favorite full scale racing category and driver ?
A: My favourite full scale racing is Motocross and Supercross. My favourite rider is Chad Reed.
Q: who is your mechanic, or do you work on your cars normally?
A: I do all my own mechanical work, and my father assists with pitting me.
Q: I heard you won the Mugen Challenge in USA, tell us all about it !! ??
A: I attended the East Coast Mugen Challenge in Ohio August 17-19, 2012. I came down with a group of fellow racers from hardcore and we were warmly welcomed at K&B III The Outback. It was great to meet some new racers and the level of competition was strong, especially with Barry Pettit in the Buggy class. It was the first big race I had taken the Serpent cars to, and I was impressed how quickly I managed to find a setup for the track. It was great to have a chance to have Paul there to give me advice. The level of support I have received has been amazing. In the Buggy qualifiers I was 7 tenths of a second off Barry’s pace, and I finished second in the main event. In Truggy the TQ went to Derek Sousa, but in the main the car really worked for me and I finished first. I was a fun race and I really hope to attend next year.
Find my set-up in the serpent site and here:
Q: Which more races do you plan for 2012 ?
A: The remaining races in 2012 for me are: The Hardcore Fall Classic, the Hardcore Endurance Race and the RC Pro Finals in Charlevoix, Quebec. I am also hoping to attend the Nitro Challenge in 2013.
Daniel, Thanks very much for your info, best of luck with studies and racing !!
