Last weekend was the last race of the ENS at the fiorano track in italy. On wednesday i checked the weather forecast and it seems that would be the first race this year without rain. On Thursday we hat 6 practise rounds and each 7 minutes long. The track conditions were really difficult because one week before was a 1:5 race there and a lot of rubber was on the asphalt. So it was not easy to find the right balance. On Friday we had 4 free practise left and 2 timed practise. After the free practise i was the fastest on five consecutive laps with a gap from 0,4 seconds on bruno. After the timed practise i was 2 tenths faster on the 3 laps again on bruno, but we were still not super happy with the setup. In the evening we had complete free practise and i tested an another engine and also small steps by the setup. After that rollout i was super happy with the setup and ready for the quali on saturday.
The first qualification was very interesting, because my car had super much steering now, and nearly undriveable. So i did one mistake on the backstraigt and i lost more then 1 second. But finally i could win the first round and everyone had the same problems. I checked the new batch of tires and what a suprise, the front tires are now a lot softer as the days before. I have won also the second and third round and was early TQ for the final, in the final qualifikation i tryed a different setup again and an another engine for the final. After that round we decided to use the setup from Q2 with the engine from Q5.
But during the days there the weather forecast changed and said rain on sunday. I prepared in the morning my wet car and tested it in the practise for the finalists. Overall happy how fast a rc car can drive in wet conditions.
10 Minutes before the start the track started to dry and we decided to wait for a dry final. That was perfect, because the rest of the day was dry and both final could drove in normal conditions. The plan for the final was refueling after 4,30, because i wasnt able to test this engine in the final practise on runetime, and a complete tire change at the 5th pitstop. We had a nearly perfect final, one little mistake from my side after the first refueling. I´ve lost the car after the pitlane because of wet tires at the hairpin after the straight. But my lead was big enough from the first 5 minutes and i still lead the whole race and won by 8 seconds in front of alessio and bruno.
I want to thank my best pit man Thomas Günsel for perfect refulings and also Klaus Lechner for an excellent tire change.
Congratulation for the overall season win in 1:10 for Bruno Coelho, and in 1:8 for Simon Kurzbuch.
So the season with the big races are finally over for me. In my first complete 1:8 season i finished 7th overall in the ENS series, 17th at the world championship, and i won the german national race with the brand new 988 Viper.
Now the focus is again a bit more on 1:10 because of the next world championship in miami next year.
I want to thank all my Sponsors for the support and hopefully again a succuessful next year.
See u on the track
