DHI Cup onroad 2018, Wilck reports
In the practice was just about to run in the tires sets and see what tires worked best. There was a big difference in the tires and the result was very mixed up in the first 2rounds.
For controlled practice I tried a softer front roll spring to get more steering, it helped a bit but needed more.
2nd controlled practice I changed the diff from 7.000 to 10.000cs. This was a bit slippery and difficult to drive but was much faster and I had same 3lap times as 2nd place.
For the qualifying I didn’t want to change to much just added a tiny bit more toe in on my project 4X EVO..
Unfortunately the screw to the rear suspension lever came out so I had to retire Q1.
Q2 I just tried to finish without mistakes but had the body tucked when Ronald came up behind and I lost 2sec to finish 5th.
In Q3 I tried a longer wheelbase, back to 2-2mm in the rear to try to get the car a bit easier to drive and bit more stable in the rear. This helped but was slower to finish 6th in the round.
For Q4 I tried a shorter wheelbase with 3degree toe-in but didn’t have the speed at all and could not improve.
Overall I qualified 7th behind Krapp and Hellqvist.
In the first final I had to make something to get back the grip in the rear of the car so I could fight for position. I changed back to 7.000cs in the diff and drove up a few positions to finish 4th.
2nd final I changed to less rear droop, 1.0 to 1.5mm. This helped the feeling in direction change in the fast chicane and with some crashes I could get 3rd.
3rd final I changed the front camber 1.5 to 1.0 to get the car even more easy to drive. This felt better and I could push it more to finish 4th again.
With 4-3-4th I finished 5th overall.
