Dear Team Serpent,
FEMCA 2018 Nitro race was held this past weekend in TRC circuit. Arrived in Hongkong on tuesday late noon and headed to the track to prepare my car together with Felix.
We started practice on wednesday with the Serpent Natrix 748-WC, with the controlled Zac project tires. I broke-in some engines on wednesday and planned to work on setup the following day. However, it rained on thursday and race started on friday.
I was seeded 3rd after Controlled practice.I tried some different setup but it was difficult to drive in the qualifiers and I crashed in both qualifiers and did not complete the run on friday. The following day, we had 3 more qualifiers. Joaquin was at the race on Saturday and provided some great input for the setup. So Felix Law, my team-mate, was going to one direction, and I was going another to see which was better. I had some problems with the battery connection which prevented me from starting 2 out of the 3 rounds on saturday. I had an okay round finishing 3rd. Taking 3 out of 5 rounds from the qualifiers, which also meant that I had to start last from the semi since I’ve completed only one round.
The semi was pretty challenging too. I started well avoiding the traffic ahead but only to get full-speed taken out in the middle section which rolled my car onto the other side of the track. This caused me to suffer a flame out. I worked my way up to 3rd spot. I encountered a strange problem with my front drive-shaft pin and it miraculously broke and left me on 3 wheel drive for the last 5 minutes of the race. I tried to hold onto my position as 3rd would have guaranteed a direct spot in the final, but I couldnt and finished 4th. So I had to wait for the other halves of the semi to see their results. But fortunately, my time was faster and I was in the final.
Starting 9th in the final, I would make my way up to 3rd quickly as many suffered traction rolling in the beginning. My engine was richen-out during the run which caused me to run out of fuel twice. It caused me a lot of time and in the end I would finish 4th. With Thilo not in the FEMCA block, this also handed Felix the FEMCA 2018 win and I would bump up to 3rd overall, so 2 Serpent on the podium.
There are plenty of things I can improve and have less small issues, on so I am feeling positive for the next one.
