Diff Organizing

With the introduction of gear diffs to 1/10 ep Touring cars I suddenly found myself with a lot of diffs sitting in my pit box.  It is convenient to have more than 2 diffs (I have 6) as gear diffs take quite a longer time to rebuild compared to the ball diffs.  And once they are build finding which has 1000 and which one is 1200 is almost impossible.

Well,  I decided to end the confusion in my Pitbox and started marking my Diffs.  Permanent marker is an option but with oil and ever changing diff oils it becomes caos after a while.  So I started carving marks on my diffs.

I then created an Excel sheet incase I forgot what I put in them.  You can protect this using PVC coating then you can mark and write on it with permanent marker.

USA: Kimbrow with 733 wins Castle Classic

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011
Below is a small report from the event I attended this past weekend with my 1/10 nitro touring car. It was the 11th annual Castle Classic at Norcal Hobbies.
11th annual Castle Classic
Norcal Hobbies, Union City, Ca.
October 23rd
Norcal Hobbies is a premier r/c facility run by Kevin Jelich and Eric Vasutin. They have incredible experience in the r/c world and do a great job managing 4 tracks as well as their well stocked hobby shop. The 11th annual Castle Classic was a bit of a different event. On October 16th they ran all electric classes for on road and off road, then the following Sunday it was Nitro on road and off road. It was kind of cool because you could practice on road while the off road guys were racing and vice-versa. I enjoyed watching the fast guys in 1/8 off-road and even got to spin some fun laps with Jason Moberly’s Serpent Cobra 811…. my first time ever behind the wheel of a nitro buggy! Thanks Jason!…. and Jason did an awesome job taking his 811 to  3rd on the podium for the 1/8 buggy class.
I raced 1/10 nitro with my Novarossi powered 733 and had a great time. There was a good turnout of close to 30 touring cars with lots of fast local drivers present.  The track is tight but fast, and the grip was very good. As incredible as this may sound, we didn’t need to change a single thing on the car setup…. it was just MONEY! I used the exact same setup as I did to win the Chipotle GP at Speedworld Raceway, and that setup sheet is listed on the Serpent website. After 2 rounds of qualifying I was able to just squeak out TQ over Kevin Woods, even though we blew a glow plug in the fast heat of the day! It was awesome, my Novarossi Flash PTS blew a plug about 3 minutes in and still ran to the finish and a TQ run!
The final didn’t run until about 6pm so the track was in the shade and it was super hooked up! Lucky, I decided to make a change of my Xceed tires to a smaller, harder compound, and it proved to be a good decision. The car was fabulous in the final and I stayed out of trouble to bring home the win. As always, i have to say thanks to my mechanic Rich Browne for the great work on the car, but I have to give big props to my awesome wife Sherry for spending the day at the track with us and doing an incredible job pitting for me in the final. She does a great job fueling the 966, but this was her first time pitting the touring car and she kicked butt!! she had the fastest pit laps of anyone!! All in all, we had a great time….. thank you to everyone at Norcal, and especially thank you to all my great sponsors……..Serpent, Serpent America, Novarossi, Spektrum, Xceed tires, Tornado, Avid bearings, Empire Racing, A-main hobbies, and Protoform.
Next event for me will be the 24th annual Toys for Tots race in Los Angeles, Ca. December 10-11. Hope to see some of you there!

California Golden State Series Round #3
Oct. 8-9, 2011
GLARCRC in Los Angeles, Ca.
We travelled to the 3rd leg of the Golden state series this past weekend in Los Angeles, Ca. USA. The weather was perfect, and there was a great turn out of nearly 70 racers to compete in 1/8 open and 1/10 touring nitro. I normally don’t race both classes at the same event, but we thought we would have some extra fun and put my Serpent 733TE out on the track because it had run so well at the Nationals a few weeks before. In 1/8 my 966TE had not been so lucky at the Nationals and had taken a big crash which needed repairs. Unfortunately we struggled with the 966 all weekend, trying to find the right setup and get a good feel back in the car.
In the 1/10 class, my Novarossi powered Serpent 733TE was awesome all weekend! The car handled so well on the low traction parking lot, that we did not change one thing on the setup. I used the same setup as the Chipotle G.P. which you can find on the Serpent website. After 3 rounds of qualifying we had the TQ spot by 8 seconds, with fellow 733 racer Walter Diaz 2nd. In the final unfortunately, we stripped a rear belt dropping us out of the race while leading…. too bad as the car was super good.
In 1/8 we had exactly the opposite result as 1/10…… we struggled with the car all weekend, only finished 1 qualifier in which I was unfortunately taken out by a lapped car while on TQ pace leaving me to qualify 7th, and had to race the final extra hard with a car setup that I was not happy with. In the end though, we had a good strategy for the final (pitting at 5 minutes when most others pitted at 4 minutes, and going the distance on 1 set of tires that were still strong at the end when others changed and some ran out of tires) and the car was solid throughout the 30 minute final. After making my way through most of the field and getting past Mike Swauger as he had some of his own issues, I found myself in the lead with about 10 minutes to go. Everything went well to the finish and was able to get the win!
It just goes to show that you never know what may happen in racing. Things can’t always be perfect, but if you stick with it and do your best, good things will come…… and best of all, you will have a GREAT TIME doing it!!
Next race up for me will be 1/10 nitro at the Castle Classic in Union City, Ca. USA. Hope to see you there, and good luck to everyone wherever you may race at. Thank you to Serpent, Serpent America, Novarossi, Xceed, Tornado Fuel, Spektrum, Protoform, A-main Hobbies, Empire Racing, Dynamite,  Avid Bearings.
Till next time………

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Martin N.O Hansen from Denmark  top qualified the last race of the season and set a new track-record with 733.

In the final engine issues prevented a win, so only 3rd in the race, but still enough points to be vice champion.

Next year Martin will race for the championship win.
