<p>Raining / wet in both so no more qualifying.   So even when we had chance to TQ  the weather did not allow it &#8230;    Overall a great event, apart from the weather.</p>
<p>This is the 1st EC to use the new rules with hand-out tyres with standard shore, brand and diameter, and the rules works super-well. Also the 16% rule for the fuel is fine. Racing / results are superclose as it fully up to set-up and driving now !!</p>
<p>Lower finals will be run today under semi-wet conditions.  Lets see what the weather will bring on finals day = saturday.</p>

<p>We lost TQ due to some own-made bad luck&#8230;<i></i>. Congratulations to Daniel Sieber taking TQ. I am proud if my team. We have 4 x 977 Viper in the top 10 and 5 in the semifinal. Well done boys!</p>

<p>Due to the poor UK weather and extended 12th scale season, we didn&#8217;t get much chance to test for the first national. The testing that we did manage to do get us confidence that the S411 Eryx was a good step forwards from the previous car.  The Cotswolds track was very low grip due to the track having been cleaned over the winter.  We found that the new car had much more forward traction the previous version which was handy for these conditions!</p>
<p><span id="more-7000"></span></p>
<p>The three rounds of qualifying on Saturday went reasonably well.  A mistake in round 1 meant I only managed 8th in round.  Round 2 was more successful with a 3rd in the round.  With limited sets of tyres I decided to run the same set in round 3 and I managed a solid 6th in with a number of other drivers using new tyres.</p>
<p>This left me with three top ten results and two new sets of tyres for Sunday.  Unfortunately, electronic problems blighted Sunday morning, wasting my new tyres.  This left me 6th on the grid and I managed to end up 5th overall in the finals.</p>
<p>In summary, a solid start to the championship, showing a lot of promise for the new car.</p>

Venue: Limbang, Sarawak</div>
<div dir="ltr">Result: Heat TQ, Final 2ndStarted off with 1st qualifying. Vehicle was running with authority but didn&#8217;t have a good start. Started off at the end of the pack.  Managed to take the lead after the 7 minutes mark and pulling away from the rest of the racers. At the 8th minute, vehicle felt sluggish and wouldn&#8217;t steer and lagging. Found out to be a defective receiver pack that wouldn&#8217;t hold enough juice for 10 minutes qualifying.</p>

<div dir="ltr"><span id="more-6893"></span>2nd Qualifying, again started out strong and the race was on this truggy. The truggy felt great and responded to every command with some understeer. At the 10 minute mark, the S811T crosses the finishing line and holding TQ position.</p>
<p>Final.<br />
Started off in pole position and once off the line, it never looked back. Was leading all the way until an unforesen screw worked its way out from the steering bellcrank causing lost of steering ability. Truggy was brought back in and a quick check reveals the dislocated screw. A quick fix and was back into the battle field in no time. Was pushing real hard to make up the lost time and at the finishing line, it took a respective 2nd place despite the hiccups.</p>
<p>Overall the truggy felt good and run strong throughout the race.</p>

<p>For Serpent things go pretty good with Q1 in the books.  Fischer with Eryx 411 in 6th despite a small crash costing 3,5sec.  Ehrbar did well with a 17th spot.  Danish topdriver and new with Serpent Patrick Hornum in 31st,  may move up the ranks if more tracktime is possible.</p>

<p>German acedriver Jan Asmer cant make it due to work. He normally runs all 3 classes, and still tops the ranks in the F1 class with the  Serpent F110 proto. Next run in Austria will see him with the final car, which will sell in july.</p>
<p>Michael Salven is present in Apeldoorn as well to support the Serpent guys, before he heads of to support Serpent drivers at the EC-B 1/8 in Austria, where the Serpent Viper 977 team will try to take the honors, followed by the ENS race in Hockenheim the week after.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Trainings before the race:<br />
One weekend, we decided to check the Turku’s track to do some training. Track was fast, pretty technical and hard to drive. We trained there for 2 weekends and didn’t plan to go to the race. Finally, our good friend Arto Heinonen asked us to go and we went. Race promised to be very interesting because of many fast guys, for example Teemu Leino, The Heinonen brothers, JQ and so on.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Practices of the race:<br />
Morning was wet, track was super slippery. We had found good setup for our car for the dry track during training weekends, so we weren’t too worried about the car’s acting on the wet track. In the first practice, shock piston came off, so my training lasted for 2 laps. 2nd training was better, track was drying and car went better. We decided not to change car’s setup, because we knew that it will work on the dry track and things were moving to that side. Some guys tried to find the setup but usually cars went even worse with the changes, so good tactics by us I think.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Qualifiers:<br />
3 rounds, 2 out of 3 counting</p>
<p dir="ltr">For the qualifiers, track was completely dry and good to drive. First qual was pretty okay, I tried to make safe and sound first run, to have a chance to risk at the end. Run was pretty okay and I got 16th place for that round. 2nd was much better, track got even better because driving line got cleaner and my 2nd round result was 9th. Last round was also pretty fast, 10th place points from that one. So, 10th place out of 54 after the qualifiers and directly to the semi final.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Semi final:<br />
I had 4th starting position in the semi, I just had to make clean and fast run to get in. That’s what I did. I was 4th whole run, huge gap to 5th and 6th in the finish. During the last laps I was driving really slowly, because fuel consumption was pretty big and I was afraid of the flameout. But nothing happened, so I bumped to the A final and got 7th spot on the grid.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Final:<br />
I had good start and was 6th for some laps, but I did some mistakes and dropped down to 10th place. Some time later, I got my driving rhythm back, and started to climb up again. I had a great pit team who made really fast stops if to compare to the others and that made things even easier. Soon, I was back in 7th and 8th place guy right behind me. We battled till the very last laps and he made mistake one lap before the finish so I just slowly brought my car to the finish and was 7th to do that.</p>
<p>Overally, race was pretty good for us. Car was rather hard to drive, but was fast but I was happy with it. Our car’s suspension was much harder than others, that probably made it harder to drive but I liked it. We had no problems, everything was perfect. Good racing, A final finish, two Serpents in the final (other Cobra finished 10th). Our best result in Finland so far.<br />

<p>On the 28th of April 2013, took place the 2nd round of the Portuguese electric touring car championship, at CRO track near Lisbon.<br />
This weekend was very painfull for the drivers because a very cold wind storm arised. Polen and debris resurfaced the track during saturday´s practice.<br />
Luckily on Sunday the track was not dusty, but traction was very little.<br />
During the heats everybody struggled with setups and specially the tires, they couldn´t handle full 5 minutes with the same amount of traction. In the end of the third qualifying, the tires were completely worn out.</p>
<p><span id="more-6857"></span><br />
I couldn´t do better than 4th at the qualifyings.<br />
In the finals the wind blowed stronger and we had to drive very carefull, when the car was against the wind would turn sharper, when was in favor we had to break about 3 meters earlier to make the corners!<br />
In the end of the game I got a nice 3rd place in the hands of the Serpent S411, with Joao martinho in 2nd and Helder Silva in 1st!<br />
Next round will be at Torres Novas track, where it will be held the Euro´s this year.<br />

<p>Last sunday was the secnd round of the Dutch 200mm 1/10 championship. The race was held in Utrecht at the RACO circuit. It is a fast circuit with high tire wear on the outside tires and some places which are quite bumpy. I have been away from 1/10 for a while and this would be my first race with a 747!</p>
<p>I had a test day early in the week and found a good setup for the dampers which made the 747 very easy to drive. I did have some headache though on how to get the front right tire to survive a 30 minute final.</p>
<p><span id="more-6850"></span></p>
<p>Raceday started with a damp track but the rest of the day would see dry weather with a few drops half an hour before the main final. The first qualifier was on rubber tires to set a time in case there would be more rain. As said the track would dry out and the second and third qualifiers would decide the starting grid. I decided to use the final qualifier to test a tire setup for the final, and even though the tires were quite big for a qualifying run my 747 was perfect and I took tq by quite a big margin.</p>
<p>The final started with the threat of rain so I had some discussions with my pit man Daan Jacobs, but we stuck with dry tires formthe start. Because of the tire wear issue I decided to take things as easy as the competition would allow to save tires. Fortunately I still had a big performance margin over the rest and could pull away slowly at the front without really pushing. After 20 minutes I had a two lap lead over 2nd place and with five minutes left I knew I had sufficient tires left and started to push a bit to see how fast I could have gone. In the last five minutes I set the fastest lap of the day and would have beaten my own TQ time.</p>
<p>Noteworthy is that we are running spec engines and the low noise Hipex exhaust system, and they work really well. My finish time in the final was only 1 lap slower than the track record with open engines. Not bad for 95 euro engine and quiet pipe!

<p>For the 3<sup>rd</sup> round of the British 200mm Championship we visited the excellent Halifax circuit in West Yorkshire. The venue has recently undergone big improvements with a new raised pit lane and fantastic covered pits, in preparation for the upcoming 1/8<sup>th</sup> European Championships.</p>
<p>Saturdays practice started off with many drivers suffering with rear stability on their cars. The traction gradually improved throughout the day and after trying many different set up’s, all Serpent drivers were very happy with the performance of their 747. It was Mark Green setting the pace getting down to 16.2 lap times, Joe Kerry very close behind with his 747 on 16.3 laps.</p>
<p>Onto qualifying and in round 1 it was Joe who took FTQ with a time of 19/312 just 2 seconds from the track record. The run was super consistent with just 0.11 seconds between his best and average lap times. 2<sup>nd</sup> place went to Mark on 18 laps, with Serpent team mate Alex Thurston 3<sup>rd</sup> also on 18 laps.</p>
<p>In round 2 only a handful of drivers were able to improve their times so the overall results stayed much the same.</p>
<p><span id="more-6842"></span></p>
<p>In round 3 Joe Kerry went close to improving his FTQ time with another 19 lap run. Alex took 2<sup>nd</sup> just ahead of Mark but neither were able to improve their best times. It was a similar story in the final round of qualifying as only a couple of drivers were able to improve. So Joe took FTQ being the only driver to complete 19 laps throughout the day. Mark would start 2<sup>nd</sup>, and also Alex 3<sup>rd</sup>. We also had the 747’s of James Conolly, Dom Carter, and Paul Bellinger, making a total of six 747’s in the main final.</p>

The final got underway and they raced off in grid order. After a couple of laps Mark forced his way past Joe to take the lead and the two of them then began to pull away from the rest of the field. The battle at the front continued with Mark and Joe on the same lap just a few seconds apart, until the 25 minute mark when one of Joe’s pulleys went. This meant the chance for the win was over but he still had enough of a gap to slowly nurse the car home for 2<sup><span>nd</span></sup> position, ahead of Alex Thurston’s 747 in 3<sup><span>rd</span></sup>, which completed an all 747 podium.</p>

<p>BRCA 1/10th IC Round 3 Halifax 220GT:</p>
<p>Team Serpent UK scored a double hat trick on 4/5<sup>th</sup> May by placing the Serpent 747 in the top three places in both the 200mm Touring and the 220GT classes at the UK’s Halifax track.</p>
<p>Round 3 of the BRCA 1/10<sup>th</sup> I/C National Championship was greeted with facility improvements at Halifax with a high level pit lane in use for the first time and the construction of the new covered pitting area well under way in readiness for the 1/8<sup>th</sup> Euros that will be held here in July. The roof wasn’t needed though as the whole week end was hot and sunny.</p>
<p>Drivers in the 220GT class were largely tyre testing during the Saturday practice day, although Ben Lungley was experimenting with his gearbox settings. By the end of the day John Russell, Serpent UK Team Principal, was satisfied that all of his cars were well on the pace.</p>
<p>Qualifying on Sunday saw schoolboy Adam Crossland setting the early pace by taking TQ in round one, but, not to be out done, fellow Serpent UK team mate Glyn Beal headed the leader board after round two. The pair defended the top places throughout qualifying, seeing off the challenge from Ryk Pryke who simply could not match the pace set by the Serpent 747-220GT’s.</p>
<p>The main A Final was always going to be a tight and competitive 30 minute race. Not for Glyn Beal though, who made the race his own with a perfect get away to lead from start to finish, giving him three straight TQ’s and three wins in the first three Championship meetings of the season. Behind him Adam Crossland, Ryk Pryke and Ben Lungley all had their eyes set on a podium finish. Non-Serpent driver Ryk Pryke was challenging again but a series of reliability issues saw him fall down the order. At the flag it was Ben Lungley who took second place just 2 seconds ahead of Adam Crossland in third, followed by David Gerard a further 12 seconds adrift.</p>

<div>Résultat des qualifications pole position devant JP Sartel 2éme et Jérôme Sartel 3éme.</div>

<div>Pour la demi final je décide de changer la gomme des pneus mais mauvaise décision. Car la voiture était plus difficile à conduire et cela ma fait faire quelques erreurs. Résultat de la demi final je fini 2éme derrière Jérôme.</div>

<div>Pour la final je change la gomme des pneus et augmente l’huile des amortisseurs.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Départ de la final je passe en tête de course dans les 5 première minute et discute une belle bagarre avec Jérôme jusqu&#8217;à environ 13 min de course avant que Jérôme cale. Je décide de calmé le rythme pour pas faire de faute et ainsi je gagne la final.</div>

<p>The Rd.2 Spanish 1/8th EP off-road nationals took place this past weekend at Pical track (Valladolid).</p>
<p>After qualifying, Serpent drivers  got TQ &amp; 2nd with Alberto set the fastest time in the last three qualifying rounds and Sergio Martinez was TQ’d at the open round, followed by Roberto Garcia.</p>
<p>The finals were really exciting. Garcia dominated the two first finals, getting the victory. For the last final, without winner Garcia, Sergio Martinez set a great performance to win the final, getting the second final place in front of former  European champion, Daniel Vega</p>
<p>Great perfomance for all Team Serpent, who showed again being the best team<br />
with the best car of the paddock, with 4 drivers in the main final:</p>

<div>Wednesday was free practice for everyone but unfortunately it was raining the whole day and we could not really test.</div>
<div>Thursday and friday was better. And all the afternoon it was dry. So I had finally some time to do some laps with my viper.</div>
<div>Saturday we started with 2 controlled practice and after lunch we had 4 qualifications.</div>
<div>Unfortunately my fastest was only the first heat. But I did a mistake and lost 3 seconds. So I was on 9th position. TQ was Silvio Hächler.</div>
<div>Klaus has also some problems and he took the 6th place. But we try&#8217;s the 5 minutes and it was not a problem for him. TQ was Toni Gruber.</div>

<div>For my semifinal my car was really perfect. But I took the time out to adjust the clutch because i got some problems and I started from 11 position. After the start I was immediately on 5th position but after one lap stops my engine, I restart but 2 laps are to much you can never overtake them. So after 20 minutes I finish on 5th place and not got it into the final. That was really very pity.</div>

<div>Final 1/10 was also over 45 minutes. Toni Gruber was very fast with his S747 but after few laps he stopped the race. So the leader was Julian Geisbauer behind him Russian driver Naumov Alexander and 3rd was Klaus Lechner.</div>

<div>After the start of the 45 min final, Silvio and Simon could pull away and open a big gap to the others, unfortunately one stint of Simon was a little bit too long and he ran out of fuel. After that it was easy for Silvio to bring home his first win at an EFRA GP. Behind Silvio it was an hard battle for the Podium with small gaps between 2nd and 6th place. The new track record in this direction is now 20.363 from Silvio.</div>

<p>Serpent race report</p>
<p>I arrived at the track about 1 ½ hour before the raced started. I had never run on the track before so it was all new for me. I knew that I had to work with the car.<br />
Qualifying:<br />
I had 2 death qualifying rounds after 2 rounds and with 3 out of 4 counting it wasn’t looking good.<br />
In the last 2 qualifying rounds I ended up 2 and 3. Overall I started 4 for the a-main grid.<br />
I couldn’t find a setup that worked well for me.</p>
<p>Finals:<br />
A1: worked out really well. I got a pretty good start and was second after first lap. I made a mistake late in the final and marshal was almost sleeping and that cost me about 8 seconds. The third man was still around 5 sec back. I went to safety driving and ended up 2<sup>nd</sup>.<br />
A2: I got a really bad start because the fifth man behind me drove me off then I was last. I drove me up to third and then my car died after three minutes with a solder joint puffing of from my connector.<br />
Now I had a 2<sup>nd</sup> and 6<sup>nd</sup> and knew that I had to have a good result in the last final to be at the podium spot!</p>
<p>A3: I was starting from 4<sup>nd</sup> and knew I needed a great start. I got a pretty good start again and was 2<sup>nd</sup> pretty fast. Jan did make a gap to me but he made a large mistake and I could overtake 1<sup>nd </sup>position. Jan made some small mistakes trying to catch me and I could take the win in A3!<br />
So overall I ended up 2<sup>nd</sup>. Serpent 1<sup>nd</sup> and 2<sup>nd </sup>couldn’t be better!<br />
Overall my car was very nervous to drive with but still managed to get a great result.</p>
